Participate in the Manchester Day Parade 2012
There’s all sorts of ways you can get involved!
- Groups can work with an artist to develop creative ideas consistent with the theme – The Sky’s the Limit… a celebration of heroic achievements. This could be designing a float, creating costumes, making music or choreography.
- Groups who already have costumes/a float that fit with the theme, or play music and can play and walk within the Parade.
- Individuals, small groups or families who want to take part and are willing to work with other people to create a section of the Parade or make costumes, or want to get involved but don’t know where to start.
- Individuals or groups that would like to volunteer on the day of the event.
- Individuals or groups who have ideas for animating areas along the route which the Parade passes with music, performance, structures etc.
We want to encourage as many people as possible across the city to take part in the Parade. However entry in the Parade is subject to a selection process and cannot be guaranteed. Although we try to involve as many groups as we can, resources are limited and we will have to say no to some groups. If the event is oversubscribed, as it was in 2010 and 2011, priority will be given to:
- Groups whom the Steering Group feels have put forward the most creative ideas.
- Groups and individuals who haven’t been involved before
We would like the Parade to be as GREEN as possible and therefore will be discouraging the use of motorised vehicles as floats or diesel powered generators. We actively embrace all ideas for structures which can be walked, pushed, pulled or wheeled.
